A 30-year-old woman was struck and killed by a New York City sanitation truck making a right turn at Bay Parkway in Brooklyn on the evening of October 29.
A 30-year-old woman was fatally struck by a Department of Sanitation (DSNY) truck in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn on the evening of October 29. Police said the woman was crossing at the southwest corner of Bay Parkway when the sanitation truck, turning right, hit her around 6:40 p.m. She was transported to NYU Langone Hospital with severe trauma and was pronounced dead. The incident comes amid ongoing city-wide discussions about dangerous intersections and pedestrian safety, sparked in part by Mayor Mamdani's administration's focus on redesigning deadly corridors. No charges had been filed at the time of initial reports, and the investigation remained open. It was the second high-profile pedestrian fatality involving a large vehicle in Brooklyn within the same week.
