Sacha Baron Cohen Returns as Ali G in New Documentary Comedy Film
Sacha Baron Cohen's beloved satirical character Ali G makes his big-screen return after 20 years in 'Ali G: Who Iz I?', a mockumentary-style comedy that opened in limited US theatres on 23 October.
On 23 October 2026, Amazon MGM Studios released 'Ali G: Who Iz I?' in limited theatrical release in the United States, bringing back one of comedy's most iconic alter egos after a two-decade hiatus. Sacha Baron Cohen writes, directs and stars as Ali G — the tracksuit-wearing, slang-mangling hip-hop journalist from Staines — in a new mockumentary format in which the character attempts to make a documentary with real, unsuspecting members of the public. A camera crew follows Ali G for over a year as he attends classes, walks city streets and appears on television programmes, often accompanied by his pregnant girlfriend, played by Morgana Robinson. Stewart Rodeheaver also appears in the film. The project continues Baron Cohen's tradition of hidden-camera social satire, using the Ali G character as a prism for exposing attitudes around race, class and celebrity. The character first became a global phenomenon through the UK television series 'Da Ali G Show', which ran from 2000 to 2004, and starred in the 2002 film 'Ali G Indahouse'. The return of the character generated considerable media anticipation and audience curiosity. The film carries an R rating.
