Youth Jailed After Faking Dates to Rob Men in Berlin
A Berlin court sentenced a young man to a long prison term for luring men on dating apps and then robbing them.
A Berlin youth court has handed a long prison sentence to a young man who used dating apps to lure men to meetings and then rob them, reported Tagesspiegel on 14/15 October 2026. The accused created fake profiles, mostly on gay dating platforms, agreed on meeting points across the city and attacked the victims on arrival, sometimes with accomplices. Several men were injured and robbed of phones, cash and jewellery. The court saw a pattern of planned, violent robbery driven by the vulnerability of victims who often did not report attacks for fear of being outed. The judges stressed the aggravating role of the homophobic context. The sentence is intended as a strong signal in Berlin, where such 'dating-set-up' robberies have risen in recent years.
