Jewish Council Warns of "Elevated Threat" Ahead of October 31 Gen-Z Protests

Germany's Central Council of Jews has issued an internal security alert warning of a heightened risk to Jewish people and institutions ahead of youth demonstrations planned across 23 cities on October 31, citing violent rhetoric on social media.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany has circulated an internal security alert declaring an "elevated threat level" for Jewish people and institutions ahead of mass protests scheduled for October 31 in 23 German cities. The demonstrations are organized under the banner "Gen Z regelt" and are nominally focused on education, healthcare, climate protection, and affordable living, as well as opposition to military conscription. The council flagged alarming language spreading across social media, including calls to "cleanse," references to "no rules," and phrases like "like in France," which it said pointed to a high willingness for violence. The alert also noted suspected links between pro-Palestinian networks in Germany and criminal groups in France. The French Jewish security service SPCJ assessed that the unrest in France had not primarily targeted Jewish sites, but the council warned that the combination of general violence, infiltration by pro-Palestinian extremists, and ties to criminal structures created a significant risk of antisemitic violence. By Monday evening, over 137,400 people had registered nationally, with around 8,000 in Berlin. October 31 falls on the Jewish Sabbath this year. The Federal Student Conference declined to back the protests over violence concerns and announced it would organize its own demonstration on a date yet to be set. The initiative "Bildungswende jetzt!" took the opposite position, announcing its support for the Saturday protests.
