Balcony Explosion Wakes Residents in Berlin-Tempelhof, No Injuries
An explosion on a balcony in Ullsteinstraße, Tempelhof, caused severe structural damage to the balcony and adjoining flat just after midnight on 29 October; police suspect a powerful firework.
Residents of an apartment building on Ullsteinstraße in Berlin's Tempelhof-Schöneberg district were startled by a powerful blast around 12:30 a.m. on 29 October 2026. The explosion, which originated on a balcony, caused severe damage to the balcony structure and the adjoining apartment. Neither of the two residents present — a 67-year-old and a 16-year-old — was injured. Emergency responders attended the scene. Media reports suggested that a "Kugelbombe," an extremely powerful type of illegal firework, may have been responsible, though police could neither confirm nor deny this. The state criminal police's specialist explosives unit (LKA) assumed responsibility for the investigation. The incident came ahead of the Halloween weekend, when concerns about illegal fireworks traditionally rise in Berlin.
