Students Block Two Berlin University Entrances in Solidarity Protests
Around 100 students barricaded the main entrance of Alice-Salomon-Hochschule in Hellersdorf on Thursday using furniture and other objects, one day after a similar blockade at the Free University Berlin's Otto-Suhr-Institut.
On Thursday 29 October 2026, around 100 students blocked the main entrance of Alice-Salomon-Hochschule in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf, using furniture and other objects. Berlin Police announced on platform X that the entrance was barricaded, classifying the action as a spontaneous assembly currently tolerated by the university. A university spokesperson confirmed the blockade was temporary and expected to wind down around 16:00. Because only the main entrance was affected and a side entrance kept the building accessible, normal university operations were largely undisturbed. Students remained peaceful throughout.
The spokesperson said a list of student demands existed and that the university was in dialogue over them, though the specific demands were not disclosed. The action was described as a sign of solidarity with protests in France, with various groups taking part.
The day before, on Wednesday 28 October, students had already blockaded the Otto-Suhr-Institut at the Free University Berlin. Those protesters expressed solidarity with strikers in France and demonstrated against social spending cuts. That action was organised by the initiative "Gen Z regelt."
