Berlin Luxury Menswear House Mientus to Close After Nearly 90 Years
Mientus, a third-generation family business and West Berlin institution known for exclusive menswear, is shutting down after almost 90 years, saying it no longer sees a lasting economic future.
Long before international luxury brands opened their own boutiques on the Kurfürstendamm and elsewhere in Berlin, shoppers could already find those very collections at Mientus. The family-run fashion retailer became a landmark in the west of the city, built on a reputation for exclusive menswear sourced from Italy, France, and Great Britain. Now, after nearly 90 years in business, the third-generation family company has announced it will permanently close, saying it no longer sees a lasting economic perspective. Mientus was widely regarded as a pioneer for high-end men's fashion in Berlin, introducing customers to international luxury labels well before those brands established their own local retail presence. The closure marks the end of one of the German capital's most storied independent fashion houses.
