Berlin Police Find No Coordinated Violence Plans for Gen Z and Halloween Weekend

Ahead of Saturday's protests and Halloween celebrations, Berlin's police said they have found no evidence of organised violence or looting plans, though they are mobilising 1,500 extra officers for the day.

Berlin's security authorities confirmed on 29 October 2026 that they had no concrete evidence of coordinated violence or looting planned for the combined Gen Z protest day and Halloween on 31 October. Police President Barbara Slowik Meisel said: "We have no concrete indications of any looting actions being coordinated," though she noted that worried shop owners had been contacting police in increasing numbers in recent days. The retail association Berlin-Brandenburg separately told its members there was nothing to fear. Director Nils Busch-Petersen said authorities had "very credibly conveyed that there are no signs of organised looting," and that members would not be advised to board up their shops.

Despite the reassurances, around 1,500 additional officers will be deployed on Saturday, with water cannons available to operations commander Stephan Katte. Two demonstrations are registered. The main Gen Z rally at the Brandenburg Gate begins at 14:00 alongside similar events nationwide; up to 10,000 people are expected, including pupils, students and parents, and police regard it as low risk. A second march at Rosenthaler Platz starts at 17:30, with 400 to 500 people expected, though numbers could rise. Police have linked its organiser to the left-wing scene and anticipate some pro-Palestinian participants.

Authorities are also watching social media, where left-wing extremist groups are mobilising around Gen Z themes such as social inequality and possible military conscription. Police additionally expect fireworks use after dark and warn that thrill-seeking youths may cause disruption at various events, as in previous Halloween nights.
