Yokohama Opens Luxury Dining Inside a 169-Year-Old Edo-Period Farmhouse

A preserved 1857 farmhouse in Yokohama's Tsunashima district opened on 28 October 2026 as two new restaurants — a bakery bistro and a Japanese-bagel sake bar — bringing contemporary dining into a Yokohama City-certified historic structure.

The Ikegaya Family Residence, a farmhouse built in 1857 during Japan's Edo period and one of Yokohama's officially certified historic structures, reopened on 28 October 2026 as home to two new dining concepts. The first, flour+water Tsunashima, is a bakery bistro seating around 60 guests and serving freshly baked bread, Italian-influenced dishes and Japanese-inflected desserts such as matcha tiramisu, operating through lunch, afternoon and dinner services. The second, Wamochi-ya, is a smaller 20-seat specialty bagel shop incorporating Japanese ingredients including dashi and red bean paste; bagels are sold from 10 am until stock runs out, and the space transforms into a sake bar each evening from 5 pm. Both venues sit within the newly developed Shin-Tsunashima MICCA redevelopment, steps from Shin-Tsunashima Station on the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line. No entry ticket is required; visitors pay only for food and drink. The project combines Yokohama's commitment to preserving Edo-era architectural heritage with a contemporary culinary programme designed to draw both local residents and travellers to a lesser-known corner of the city.
