London pastry star opens Islington cafe Clementine
A new 20-cover Islington cafe from one of London's leading pastry chefs opened on 10 October, among a wave of autumn openings headlined by Time Out.
On 10 October 2026 London food pages led with the opening of Clementine, a 20-cover cafe in Islington from one of the city's best-known pastry chefs. The all-day menu runs from tattie scones with scrambled eggs and Scotch pancakes with poached fruit at breakfast to Staffordshire oatcakes with bacon and seasonal pastries later in the day, with laminated viennoiserie as the chef's signature. The opening headlined Time Out's monthly round-up of the 12 best new restaurants in London for October, which also features a brand-new 10-seater omakase from acclaimed sushi chef Endo Kazutoshi, built around a 200-year-old hinoki counter shipped from Kyoto and offering no written menu. The round-up emphasised the capital's shift toward tiny, chef-led counters and neighbourhood bakeries after a difficult year for mid-size restaurants. Time Out, The Standard and Hot Dinners carried the openings prominently on 10 October.
