Antonelli Can Become F1's Youngest World Champion at Austin's Circuit of the Americas
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli arrives at the 2026 United States Grand Prix in Austin leading the championship by 102 points and needing a win plus help from rivals to clinch a record-breaking title this Sunday.
Kimi Antonelli heads to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the 2026 United States Grand Prix carrying a 102-point lead in the Formula 1 World Championship with 340 points — ahead of his Mercedes teammate George Russell on 238 and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton on 229. With six races remaining in the season, Antonelli can clinch the title in Austin on Sunday 25 October by winning the race, while Russell finishes ninth or lower and Hamilton fifth or lower; all three conditions must be met simultaneously. If he pulls it off, he will become the youngest Formula 1 World Champion in history at 20 years and 61 days, breaking Sebastian Vettel's 2010 record by more than three years. The title fight is the backdrop to a visually spectacular start of the Austin weekend, with nearly half the 11-team grid unveiling special one-off liveries: Ferrari in blueprint-inspired engineering-artwork graphics developed with HP Latex technology, Mercedes in blue showcasing its MANUFAKTUR personalisation service, Aston Martin commemorating five years with Cognizant, and Haas featuring Godzilla imagery. Verstappen (221 pts), Leclerc (215 pts) and Norris (201 pts) remain mathematically eligible, but any Antonelli race victory would eliminate all three from contention.
