Blücherplatz in Kreuzberg renamed Eva-Mamlok-Platz
Berlin-Kreuzberg's Blücherplatz has been renamed Eva-Mamlok-Platz in honour of a young Jewish resistance fighter against Nazi rule.
Berlin-Kreuzberg's Blücherplatz was officially renamed Eva-Mamlok-Platz on 17 October 2026, honouring a young Jewish resistance fighter who worked against Nazi rule in Berlin before being deported and murdered. According to a dpa report in the Tagesspiegel, local politicians and historians unveiled a new sign at the square near Hallesches Tor and the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek. Eva Mamlok was a member of a Berlin youth resistance group and is one of a growing number of women whose names are now entering Berlin's streetscape as part of a broader effort to make female and Jewish resistance visible. The decision to drop the old name — long associated with the Prussian general Blücher — was taken by Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg's district assembly after years of debate. Relatives, local school pupils and representatives of Jewish organisations attended the ceremony, placed flowers at the new sign and remembered Mamlok's life.
