Füchse Berlin Beat HSG Wetzlar 36:30 as Fabian Wiede Returns from Year-Long Injury

Füchse Berlin ended a two-game losing run with a convincing 36:30 Handball-Bundesliga victory at the Max-Schmeling-Halle on Sunday, with top scorer Mathias Gidsel netting twelve goals and back-court player Fabian Wiede making a celebrated comeback after a year out injured.

Füchse Berlin returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 36:30 Handball-Bundesliga victory over bottom side HSG Wetzlar at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in front of 8,803 spectators. The hosts led 18:14 at half-time and extended their advantage to eight goals by the 42nd minute, eventually seeing the game out comfortably. Mathias Gidsel was the standout performer with 12 goals, while Leo Prantner and Tobias Gröndahl each added five. The result moved Füchse up to sixth place in the table. The emotional highlight was the return of back-court player Fabian Wiede, who came off the bench in the 21st minute to loud applause after a year-long injury absence and soon after scored his first goal of the season. National team player Nils Lichtlein, the side's playmaker, remained sidelined with a shoulder problem. Captain Max Darj, whose contract will not be renewed at the end of the season, was central to a strong defensive display that helped Berlin pull away before the break and punish Wetzlar's mistakes after the interval. The win brings an end to a run of two consecutive Bundesliga defeats for the Berlin side.
