Hundreds Protest Deportations at Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Roughly 200 demonstrators — far more than the 25 to 50 officially registered — gathered at BER on Saturday as part of a nationwide day of action against deportations, with police directing the protest outdoors.

On Saturday 25 October 2026, around 200 people gathered at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) to protest deportations and the so-called external border facility at the site, as part of a nationwide day of action. Only 25 to 50 participants had been registered with police beforehand, meaning the actual turnout was far higher than expected. When it became clear that several hundred people were heading to BER, police moved the assembly outside; it had originally been planned to take place inside Terminal 1. Organisers had deliberately timed the protest to coincide with the school holiday period, with one activist telling the B.Z. that the aim was to highlight a stark contrast: while families fly off on holiday, people are being deported from the very same airport. Airport spokesperson Sabine Deckwert confirmed to the Tagesspiegel that there were no disruptions to flight operations. The airport gave no information on whether any deportation flights had been scheduled that day. Similar protests took place at other German airports on Saturday, including Leipzig, where demonstrators focused in particular on controversial charter deportation flights to Afghanistan.
