Shojo Manga Infinity Opens at National Art Center Tokyo

A landmark retrospective of three pioneer shojo manga artists — Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato — opens on 28 October 2026 at the National Art Center, Tokyo, to mark the museum's 20th anniversary.

The exhibition Shojo Manga Infinity: Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato opened at the National Art Center, Tokyo (NACT) on 28 October 2026, running through 8 February 2027. The show was mounted to celebrate the museum's 20th anniversary and honours three artists widely credited with transforming the shojo (girls') manga genre. All three debuted in the late 1960s and became central figures in the 1970s golden age of shojo manga, a period that greatly expanded the genre's creative possibilities. They have each continued to publish actively to the present day. The exhibition retraces all three careers through original drawings from their best-known works alongside valuable archival materials, while also exploring their respective sources of inspiration. Colour works will be rotated across two terms: the first running to 14 December 2026, the second from 16 December 2026 to the close. Located in the museum's Special Exhibition Gallery 2E at Roppongi, Minato-ku, the show is open daily (Tuesdays excepted) from 10:00 to 18:00, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 20:00. Admission is free for children aged 15 and younger (junior high school age and younger).
