London Transport Museum Launches Piccadilly Line 120th Birthday Celebrations
The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden opens a week of half-term activities on 24 October marking 120 years since the Piccadilly line's opening as the world's longest underground railway.
The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden began its Piccadilly line 120th anniversary celebrations on Saturday 24 October, running through to Saturday 1 November. When the Piccadilly line opened in 1906, it was the longest underground railway in the world; it is now the second-longest on the London network. The half-term programme caters for all ages. Children aged five and under enjoy sensory storytelling sessions exploring the line's famous landmarks. Older children can join 'design a station' arts and crafts workshops and a 'fly the tube' tinkering activity. An Early Explorer Morning on 28 October provides crowd-free access for children with special educational needs. Visitors over the age of 10 can join family editions of the museum's Hidden London guided tours, with a session exploring the disused Aldwych station featuring riddles, clues and quizzes. Children enter the museum free; adult tickets include free daytime return entry for the rest of the year.
