UK and Japan Strengthen Financial Ties at City of London's Japan Day

The City of London Corporation and the Embassy of Japan co-hosted Japan Day to mark the start of Japan Weeks 2026 (26–30 October), bringing together government, financial services and business leaders to strengthen UK-Japan investment and financial ties. The day featured a Japan-UK Financial Seminar at Nomura International and a networking reception at Mansion House.

Japan Day 2026, co-organised by the City of London Corporation and the Embassy of Japan in the UK, coincided with the opening of Japan Weeks 2026 (26–30 October), now in its fourth edition and led by Japan's Financial Services Agency. The day centred on a Japan-UK Financial Seminar hosted at Nomura International's London offices, followed by a networking reception at Mansion House that included a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Key attendees included Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki, Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby KC MP, and senior representatives from Mizuho Financial Group, Deloitte, Nomura Asset Management UK and L&G. A separate Tokyo-London Sustainable Finance Seminar then took place on Tuesday 27 October, jointly hosted with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, focusing on sustainable finance and natural disaster resilience, with the Lady Mayor delivering a pre-recorded keynote address. Both events build on the Lady Mayor's trip to Tokyo on 17–18 June, where she met insurers, banks, asset managers and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to explore bilateral opportunities. As Lucy Rigby KC MP highlighted, the UK and Japan are two of the world's leading asset management centres with a shared ambition to deepen investment links. The City of London Corporation and the Embassy of Japan aim to channel that trusted relationship into new opportunities across capital mobilisation, transition finance and financial innovation.
