Diwali on Trafalgar Square 2026 Cancelled Over Forecast Storms
London's Diwali on Trafalgar Square, scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2026, has been cancelled after expert safety advice determined that forecast storms made it unsafe to continue preparations at the site.
The Diwali on Trafalgar Square celebration — a Mayor of London event organised in partnership with the Diwali in London (DiL) Committee — has been cancelled following expert safety advice. Adverse weather forecast for Saturday 24 October was already affecting preparations at Trafalgar Square and posed potential risks to the health and safety of the teams preparing the site. The decision was reached in consultation with relevant experts and the Greater London Authority team, with the DiL Committee stating that the safety of site teams, participants and visitors had to come first.
The DiL Committee issued a cancellation press release expressing deep regret, particularly for the young performers, participants and volunteers who had devoted significant time and energy to preparing for the day. The committee thanked partners, production teams and the GLA for their support and apologised for the short notice.
Visitors were asked not to travel to Trafalgar Square for the celebration and to share the announcement with anyone planning to attend. No rescheduled date was announced.
