London Bus Fares Rise for the First Time in Three Years
From 1 November, London bus and tram single fares will increase by 10p to £1.85, ending a freeze that has been in place since March 2023 after Mayor Sadiq Khan extended the pause that had been due to expire in July.
Transport for London has confirmed that bus and tram fares across the capital will rise from 1 November, marking the first increase since March 2023. The change comes after Mayor Sadiq Khan extended the fare freeze, which had originally been due to end in July. At the time, the Mayor said he would "continue doing everything in my power to keep TfL services as affordable as possible," acknowledging that the cost-of-living crisis was still affecting many Londoners.
Single adult bus fares will go up by 10p to £1.85. The Hopper fare, which allows unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour of tapping in, is also covered by this increase. Concession card holders — including those with 16+ Zip Oyster cards or Jobcentre Plus cards — will see pay-as-you-go fares rise by 5p. The daily bus and tram cap will increase from £5.25 to £5.55.
Tube fares are not affected by this change. An increase on those services is typically announced in March. TfL continues to note that Londoners pay some of the lowest bus fares anywhere in the country.
