Berlin Taxis Face Being Banned from BER Airport from January 2027

Berlin-registered taxis risk losing the right to pick up passengers from BER airport after the Dahme-Spreewald district terminated a key operating agreement, leaving negotiators scrambling to reach a new deal before the 1 January 2027 deadline.

Berlin-licensed taxis could be barred from the taxi ranks and pick-up zones at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) from 1 January 2027 after the Dahme-Spreewald district — in whose territory the airport lies — terminated its existing cooperation agreement with Berlin's Senate transport administration. Under the current arrangement, Berlin taxis are permitted to queue at the airport's taxi stands under a cross-border agreement. Without a replacement deal, only taxis licensed in the Dahme-Spreewald district would be permitted to pick up arriving passengers from the official taxi stands. Pre-booked journeys and drop-offs of departing passengers at the airport would remain unaffected. Negotiations between the Dahme-Spreewald district and Berlin's Senate are ongoing, but no agreement had been reached at the time of publication. Observers warned that losing access would reduce the number of available taxis, with bottlenecks likely during peak hours. One frequent flyer quoted in the report described paying high fares for poor service on journeys from BER into the city, calling the situation damaging to Berlin's reputation.
