'The Book of Mormon' Returns to London's West End — Recommended

The Book of Mormon, created by South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is playing at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Leicester Square from 28 October 2026 to 23 January 2027, and comes recommended by Time Out.

The Book of Mormon has opened a new West End run at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Leicester Square, playing from 28 October 2026 through 23 January 2027. The musical comes from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez.

The show follows two Mormon missionaries — narcissistic Elder Price and dumpy, lying Elder Cunningham — dispatched to Uganda to convert a local village to Mormonism. What they find is a community ill-served by a religion that, as the review puts it, "essentially tells the penniless villagers how great distant America is."

Time Out describes the production as recommended, calling it "a big-hearted affair that pays note-perfect homage to the sounds and spirit of Broadway's golden age" and, above all, "very funny." The show is noted as atheist in outlook yet conciliatory toward those whose beliefs bring them happiness. The Uganda setting is framed as a pointed parody of The Lion King's romanticism rather than a mean-spirited portrayal.

Praise goes to Casey Nicholaw's kitsch choreography and a "hard-working and well-drilled ensemble." The review does note a limitation: despite its laughs and great songs, the show "lacks the satiric purpose and angry animating spark" of Parker and Stone's other work. It is nonetheless rated "the best West End musical since the stronger Matilda" — a considerable compliment, and reason enough to book a seat.
