West London's Lyric Hammersmith theatre has unveiled its complete 2027 season, spanning seven productions from January through to November. The season opens with the return of Jocelyn Bioh's comedy Jaja's African Hair Braiding (20 Jan–27 Feb), following its acclaimed 2025 UK premiere. In April, Inua Ellams' drama Once Upon a Time in Sokoto (13 Apr–8 May) explores Nigeria's founding and the intra-African slave trade. May brings a transfer of the RSC's production of Brock's Mill (13 May–5 Jun), directed by former National Theatre boss Rufus Norris, which follows an elderly former animator who finds himself confronted by his grown-up daughter, who needs aspects of her childhood explained. June sees the world premiere of Conor McPherson's adaptation of Toshikazu Kawaguchi's 2015 novel Before the Coffee Gets Cold (17 Jun–17 Jul), about a Tokyo café that allows customers to briefly travel back in time. July delivers the London premiere of the stage musical The Book Thief (24 Jul–28 Aug), based on Markus Zusak's Second World War novel, in a reworking by Jodi Picoult, Timothy Allen McDonald, Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson that first premiered in Bolton in 2022. Kieran Hurley's gangland drama The Young Team, a co-production with the National Theatre of Scotland, runs in August–September, and the season closes with Alistair McDowell's adaptation of Shirley Jackson's psychological horror novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle (7 Oct–6 Nov).
