Mayor Launches New Framework to Speed Up Delivery of London Homes and Public Spaces

City Hall has launched a redesigned four-year Architecture and Urbanisation Framework to streamline how public bodies procure design expertise for new homes, public spaces and infrastructure, supporting a target of 558,000 new homes between 2027 and 2036.

City Hall has launched a redesigned Architecture and Urbanisation (A+U) Framework, a four-year programme to help London's public bodies access architectural and built-environment expertise for new homes, public spaces and infrastructure projects. The A+U Framework has been running since March 2023 and, across its first three years to March 2026, facilitated more than £15 million in service procurement. The redesign, shaped by extensive stakeholder feedback, aims to expand opportunities for small and under-represented firms through faster, simpler procurement processes and a stronger emphasis on sustainability, social value, and diversity and inclusion. Notable commissions under the existing framework include East Architecture Landscape and Urban Design, which secured nearly £500,000 to support the Oxford Street pedestrianisation programme, and Archio, which received £1.1 million across multiple small-sites projects, including work in Camden and the City of London. The framework supports the Mayor's wider housing agenda, underpinned by The London Plan's target of 558,000 new homes between 2027 and 2036 and an £11.7 billion affordable homes funding pipeline running through 2036. Architectural practices, design studios and built environment specialists can apply through the Ariba procurement portal.
